The event “The Health Argument for Climate Action” is scheduled to take place during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2024). This event aims to contribute to the review of SDG Goal 13, which focuses on taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. It will emphasize the important relationship between health and climate change, as well as the health benefits that can result from taking action on climate issues.
The event will showcase efforts by the World Health Organization (WHO), Member States, and the health community to promote solutions for building climate-resilient and sustainable low-carbon health systems. One key initiative highlighted will be the Alliance for Transformative Action for Climate and Health (ATACH). The event will also present cross-sectional solutions in three key areas: clean energy, healthy and sustainable food systems, and healthy urban planning.
Hosted by WHO in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates, UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and The Rockefeller Foundation, the event will be held in a hybrid format, both online and in-person at the UN Headquarters in New York. The goal of the event is to raise awareness about the crucial link between health and climate change, and to showcase innovative solutions being implemented to address these challenges.
