Right-wing parties are leading the polls ahead of the EU elections in several countries, not just France and Austria. In Italy, the Fratelli d’ Italia are in first place with 27 percent, ahead of the Social Democrats at 21 percent. Leading candidate Giorgia Meloni aims to organize a majority of right-wing forces to send the left into opposition in Europe. The National Alliance “Everything for Latvia” in Latvia and the Fidesz party in Hungary are also leading in their respective national polls.

In Latvia, the National Alliance “Everything for Latvia” is leading with 18 percent, while in Hungary, Fidesz is predicted to win 55.5 percent of the vote in the parliamentary election and close to 50 percent in the EU election polls. The AUR in Romania could become the second strongest force, while the PiS party in Poland is polling at 30 percent in the “United Right” alliance.

The right-wing AfD party in Germany is polling at 16 percent and is the second strongest party in the EU Parliament. However, they were thrown out of the “Identity and Democracy” group after causing scandals. Overall, right-wing factions together have 143 of the 720 seats in the EU Parliament, which is less than twenty percent.
