The Electron Rocket from Rocket Lab Touches Down at California Science Center

The Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket is now on display for the public to view at the California Science Center’s Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center Work in Progress gallery. This temporary exhibition provides a glimpse into new artifacts and future plans for the Air and Space Center. This marks the first time that the historic rocket will be available for up-close viewing by the public.

Peter Beck, the founder and CEO of Rocket Lab, expressed pride in the rocket’s inclusion in the exhibit. He stated that being recognized among the historic names in aerospace from Southern California is an honor. Beck also mentioned that Rocket Lab’s mission is to make access to space more accessible to everyone. It is hoped that Electron’s presence in the exhibit will inspire future leaders in STEM fields.

Electron is known as one of the most prolific launch vehicles in the world, with 50 successful launches from sites in New Zealand and Virginia, USA. It is the world’s first carbon composite orbital launch vehicle and the first to feature 3D printed engines. Electron is powered by 10 Rutherford engines that were designed and fabricated in Long Beach, California using 3D printing technology. Since Rocket Lab’s first launch in 2017, Electron has deployed 190 satellites to orbit for customers across commercial, civil, defense and academic sectors.

The cover photo for this announcement shows Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket displayed at the California Science Center. This exhibit provides a unique opportunity for the public to learn more about this groundbreaking rocket and its contributions to space exploration.
