When booking air travel, I typically opt for the cheapest nonstop flight available from my local airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). For my most recent trip, the most affordable option was an eight-hour red-eye flight on a new airline called Norse Atlantic Airways.
Norse Atlantic Airways is a budget airline that launched in 2022, offering nonstop flights from the US to destinations in Germany, Norway, the UK, France, and Italy. Despite having never heard of the airline before, I decided to give it a try for this trip.
I chose the economy light ticket, which included a seat and space for a personal item, for a total of $88. Additionally, I paid $75 to select a window seat ahead of time and a $20 fee for airport check-in, bringing my total cost to $183.
Typically, I appreciate domestic red-eye flights for giving me an extra day at my destination, but I had never experienced an international red-eye flight before. To my surprise, the long overnight flight left me feeling exhausted at the beginning of my trip, making me question if the time saved was worth the fatigue.
