The T20 Cricket World Cup officially kicks off on Long Island with matches taking place at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Several streets in the area were closed at 6:30 a.m. and are expected to reopen after 6 p.m. Those looking to navigate around the closures may consider using Hempstead Turnpike as an alternative route.

The first match scheduled is between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Extra safety precautions are being implemented by police in response to terror threats against the upcoming match between India and Pakistan. Metal detectors will be stationed at the park entrance, and a no-bag policy and no-fly zone will be strictly enforced.

In other news, two NYPD officers were injured during a shootout with a suspect in Queens. Phil Taitt and Raegen Medgie report on the officers’ conditions from the scene.
