According to the European car manufacturers’ association ACEA, the electric car market in Europe is facing a decline in market share. In May, there were almost 912,000 new passenger cars registered in the European Union, which is a 3 percent decrease compared to the same month last year.
Fully electric cars accounted for 12.5 percent of registrations in May, down from 13.8 percent in May of the previous year. Hybrid cars, on the other hand, saw an increase in market share from 25 percent to 30 percent in May. The combined market share of combustion engine cars, which includes both petrol and diesel vehicles, decreased from 52.1 percent to 48.5 percent.
The number of registrations for fully electric cars fell by 12 percent in Europe in May, totaling 114,308 units. Among major markets, only Belgium and France saw an increase in electric car registrations, with Belgium experiencing a 44.8 percent rise and France seeing a 5.4 percent increase. However, Germany and the Netherlands both saw significant declines, with registrations dropping by 30.6 percent and 11.7 percent, respectively.
