Kevin Alcántara, one of the Cubs’ top prospects, has been sidelined with a left shoulder injury for over two weeks. However, there is hope that he will be back in action this week. Alcántara is ranked as the Cubs’ no. 4 prospect by MLB Pipeline and the no. 51 overall prospect in the game.

The injury occurred on June 7 and the Cubs initially shut him down for a few days. When Alcántara felt discomfort again during his ramp-up, he was shut down once more to play it safe. The injury came at a time when Alcántara was performing well, with a .315 batting average, a home run, 6 doubles, 11 RBI, and a 135 weighted runs-created plus in his previous 18 games.

On the season, the 6-foot, 6-inch outfielder is hitting .261 with a .693 OPS, 5 home runs, and a 106 wRC+. Last season, Alcántara had an .807 OPS, 12 home runs, and a 124 wRC+ in 95 games with High-A South Bend before being promoted to Tennessee late in the year. The Cubs are hopeful that Alcántara will be back on the field with Tennessee when they open a 6-game series against the Barons in Birmingham, Alabama, on Tuesday.
