The National Science Foundation awards KSU with a $7 million grant

Kentucky State University recently announced that it has been awarded a $7 million grant from the National Science Foundation. This funding will be utilized for research focused on soil-less agriculture technology to enhance food growth in Kentucky. KSU President Koffi Akakpo expressed that this grant marks a significant milestone for the university and highlighted the impact it will have on the community, economy, education, and future.

The project signifies the commitment of Kentucky State University and its partners to make a positive difference in the state. President Akakpo expressed his pride in this achievement. Aaron Thompson, the president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, stressed the importance of this grant, especially in light of the financial challenges the university has faced in recent years. Despite the financial issues experienced between 2018 and 2021, new leadership is dedicated to restoring the school’s financial stability.

Thompson emphasized that the NSF grant provides a strong foundation for future opportunities and outcomes. He believes that with continued efforts in enrollment, student success, and innovative programming, more grants like this one can be secured in the future.
