The NBA Draft Approach of Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics

Brad Stevens is focused on the upcoming NBA draft as the Boston Celtics prepare to make their selections. Stevens, the team’s president of basketball operations, will be back on duty for the 2024 draft after celebrating the Celtics’ 18th championship. The team currently holds the 30th and 54th overall picks in the draft.

While Stevens has not made a first-round selection during his time as Boston’s general manager, it seems likely that this trend could change this year. During a press conference on Tuesday, Stevens mentioned that if the right player is available at the 30th pick, the team will take them. He also expressed interest in investing in young players through the draft and exploring potential options and flexibility with their picks.

One challenge the Celtics face in making trades during the draft is the second apron constraint. Second apron teams are limited in their ability to make certain types of trades under the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. Despite these constraints, Stevens is focused on building the team’s roster through the draft and player development.

With most of the championship-winning squad expected to return for the upcoming season, any players selected in the draft may find it challenging to earn a spot on the roster. Only a few Celtics players are set to test free agency, leaving minimal room for new additions to the team. The 2024 draft is set to begin on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET, and Celtics fans will be eagerly watching to see who the team selects with their picks.
