The Prime Minister Sends Best Wishes to the Newly Elected Secretary General of the CE

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently sent a congratulatory message to the newly elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berse. In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the Council of Europe’s 75th anniversary amidst complex geopolitical challenges faced in Europe and beyond. Pashinyan emphasized the need for a strong Council of Europe to promote peace and uphold universal values in the face of democracy and human rights challenges.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence in Berse’s ability to uphold fundamental values and principles, while protecting human rights across the Council of Europe’s geographic area. Pashinyan pledged full support from himself and the government of the Republic of Armenia in supporting Berse in his mission as Secretary General.

Alain Berse, the former president of the Swiss Confederation, was elected as Secretary General of the Council of Europe on June 25th, succeeding Maria Pejcinovich Burich. Berse’s appointment comes at a critical time for the Council of Europe, as it navigates challenges and works towards promoting peace, democracy, and human rights in the region.
