The top Edina soccer team earns the All-Metro Sports Awards Girls Team of the Year honor

The Edina girls soccer team was dominant throughout the season, led by senior Izzy Engle who was named Ms. Soccer and the Star Tribune’s Metro Player of the Year. Heading into the state tournament as the No. 1 seed, the Hornets were undefeated and on a mission to claim the state title.

In previous years, Edina had fallen short in the state tournament despite being a top contender. However, this season was different as they faced opportunities to showcase their talent and determination. Engle scored seven goals in three state tournament games, leading Edina to a perfect 22-0 season and securing the state title.

The Hornets were recognized as the 2024 All-Metro Sports Awards Girls Team of the Year, capping off a successful season that saw them overcome various challenges. From defeating tough opponents like Stillwater and Wayzata during the regular season to rallying against St. Michael-Albertville in the state tournament quarterfinals, Edina proved their resilience and skill.

Her hat trick in the state tournament quarterfinals and scoring the game-winning goal against Wayzata in the state title game highlighted her impact on the team’s success.
