Threads is testing a new feature that provides access to a list of the main trending topics being discussed on the social network in the United States. This feature is being tested in both the main feed and the search tab. Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, had previously confirmed that the social network was working on a feature to display emerging trending topics similar to X trends, which was Twitter’s former feature.
Now, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has announced on Threads that they have started testing this new feature with users in the United States. The feature aims to show the top topics being discussed on the social network in real time. The trending topics are displayed in a list on the search page in a section called ‘Today’s topics’. The main topics that users are discussing in their Threads publications appear ordered in this list based on their interactions. Additionally, the trends are displayed within the main feed of the users and can be accessed by sliding to the left on the screen.
The trending topics are determined by Meta’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems which evaluate the relevance of topics based on people’s posts and interactions at the moment. Content specialists at Meta also review the topics selected by the AI systems to ensure they are not duplicated or confusing. The intention is for the trending topics to accurately represent what is currently happening on the social network.
Although Meta recently announced that they would limit the appearance of recommended political content on Instagram and Threads, Mosseri has clarified that political topics may also be selected as trends. The trending topics are currently being tested with users in the United States, and once optimized, they will be implemented in more countries and languages.
In addition to the trend feature testing, there are also several links to articles about house buyers and what they look for in a home or real estate transaction. These articles include topics such as what house buyers want in a home, what to say to potential house buyers, and how cash house buyers can help you sell your home. These topics show the variety of interests and concerns that house buyers have, which may be valuable for users of the Threads social network.
