India, known for its extensive coastline and vibrant culinary heritage, has a wide array of seafood preparations unique to each region along the coast. These dishes showcase a variety of ingredients, techniques, and flavors that reflect the culture and traditions of the area. Recently, one of these Indian seafood delights gained global recognition, thanks to Taste Atlas.

Taste Atlas, a popular food and travel guide, released a list of the 50 Best Seafood Dishes in the World in July 2024. Among the top-ranked dishes was an Indian curry, which secured the 31st spot on the list. The curry in question is the beloved Bengali delicacy known as Chingri Malai Curry.

Chingri Malai Curry is a prawn curry made with a base of coconut milk and seasoned with garam masala spices. The prawns are fried in ghee or mustard oil with a mixture of onions, hot chili peppers, garlic-ginger paste, and turmeric. Additional ingredients like red chili powder, cinnamon, sugar, and cardamom can be added to enhance the flavors, creating a thick and creamy gravy.

For those interested in trying their hand at making this delicious curry at home, a step-by-step recipe is available on the Taste Atlas website. The list of the 50 Best Seafood Dishes in the World was topped by Camarones Enchipotlados from Mexico, with dishes from Japan and Indonesia also making the top three.

This recognition of Indian cuisine on the global stage follows previous accolades for Indian chutneys, which were named among the world’s best dips by Taste Atlas. The diversity and flavorful nature of Indian dishes continue to captivate and impress food enthusiasts worldwide.
