The Nebraska football team secured a significant commitment from a top recruit as June came to a close, well before the start of the 2024 season. Houston Kaahaaina-Torres announced his commitment to Nebraska on social media, following a visit to the campus on June 21. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 290 pounds, Kaahaaina-Torres is a three-star lineman and the number one player in the state of Hawaii. He has been playing varsity football for St. Louis High School in Honolulu since his freshman year.

After receiving offers from several other schools, including Arizona State, California, and Michigan State, Kaahaaina-Torres ultimately chose Nebraska. He had also received offers from Utah, Colorado, and Brigham Young. This marks the second consecutive year that Nebraska has landed the top recruit from Hawaii, with Preston Taumua joining the team last year. Kaahaaina-Torres is the 13th commitment in Nebraska’s recruiting class and the second offensive lineman to commit, following three-star offensive tackle Brian Tapu.
