Wednesday’s game between the Mets and Yankees was halted due to heavy rain in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Mets were leading 4-0 at the time of the delay, with runners on second and third bases and only one out. The game was set to resume at around 10:10 p.m.
The Mets took an early lead in the third inning thanks to an RBI single by J.D. Martinez and a two-run homer by Francisco Alvarez. Alvarez continued his hot streak with an RBI double in the fifth inning, driving in Brandon Nimmo. So far, Alvarez is 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a walk.
On the other side, Yankees pitcher Luis Gil struggled on Wednesday, giving up four runs on four hits and four walks in just 4.1 innings. He only managed to strike out two batters before he was pulled from the game.
