Tourist discovers 1 ton of cocaine on shore of German Wadden Island

A holidaymaker on the German Wadden island of Borkum made a significant drug find when they discovered suspicious packages on the beach, containing 1,000 kilos of cocaine. The tourist found the bags in April, tied with a life jacket, and immediately alerted the police. The island is located north of the Dutch Groningen but is part of Germany. Authorities confirmed the drug discovery to local media but did not provide further details as the investigation is ongoing.

This incident is not the first time that drugs have washed up on the beaches of the German North Sea coast. In 2021, workers found 25 kilos of cocaine on a dike in Aurich, and a similar amount washed up on the Wadden island of Baltrum. The presence of drugs on these shores highlights the ongoing issue of drug trafficking in the region.
