Transgender athlete Nikki Hiltz shatters record to qualify for Paris Olympics 2024 in middle-distance race

Nikki Hiltz, an American transgender middle-distance runner, made history by qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics in the women’s 1500m final with a record-breaking time of 3:55.53. This achievement surpassed the previous record set by Elle St. Pierre at 3:58.03 during the 2021 track and field trials. Hiltz expressed her emotions in an Instagram post, stating how a childhood dream had come true in Eugene, Oregon. She expressed gratitude for the love and support she received and the joy of getting to race alongside people she deeply cares about.

Having previously won a silver medal in the 1500m at the Indoor World Championships, Hiltz is now preparing for her first Olympic Games. She will be joined by Emily Mackay, who came in second with a time of 3:55.90, and St. Pierre, who finished third with 3:55.99. Hiltz highlighted the significance of her achievement for the LGBTQ community, stating that the last day of Pride Month was a meaningful time to run for her community. She felt the love and support from LGBTQ individuals during her race and acknowledged their role in her success.

Looking ahead to the Olympics, the women’s 1500m event is scheduled to begin on August 6th at 4:05 a.m. Eastern Time. Hiltz expressed excitement about representing her community and acknowledged the impact of her fellow athletes in elevating women’s distance running. She emphasized the importance of teamwork and support in the pursuit of athletic excellence.
