Translational Science Fellowship Welcomes New Interim Assistant Director

Dr. Rábago is a professor and vice chair for faculty development in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Penn State Health/Penn State College of Medicine. He specializes in complementary and integrative health therapies for chronic upper respiratory symptoms and chronic pain, bringing his expertise as a family medicine physician-scientist to address public health challenges.

Expressing his excitement for leading an essential training program, Dr. Rábago looks forward to engaging with students from various disciplines at Penn State. He aims to enhance their understanding of translational research in a supportive and collaborative environment, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.

With a background in education, Dr. Rábago has been actively involved in teaching and mentoring throughout his career. He started as a middle- and high-school teacher in Milwaukee and Chicago before transitioning to medicine. Despite his shift in career paths, he has maintained his connection to education by teaching at various levels in clinical and research-related topics.

As the program director of Penn State’s T32 Primary Care Research Fellowship, Dr. Rábago focuses on addressing community health needs and eliminating disparities. He works to provide outreach and promote synergy among clinical translational science training initiatives throughout the University, emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach to healthcare.
