Trésor Makunda, a multi-medalist para-athlete, expressed his desire for a pair of glasses that would make a statement during a visit to the Institut Supérieur d’Optique (ISO) in Paris. As a visually impaired 400m champion gearing up for his 5th Paralympics at the age of 39, Trésor emphasized the importance of his appearance, especially when he is on the starting line before a race. He described how he is under constant scrutiny by the public and cameras, making his look an essential part of his performance.
In order to stand out at this year’s games in Paris, Trésor wanted something unique and eye-catching. He collaborated with two creative eyewear bachelor students, Léna and Sébastien, who worked alongside their internship supervisors to create a customized pair of glasses for him. Trésor specifically requested glasses that were both elegant and lightweight, a departure from the traditional sports glasses he typically wears during training provided by Optic 2000, one of his sponsors.
Within a short period of two and a half months, the team designed and handcrafted a pair of glasses that fulfilled Trésor’s vision for a festive and standout look. His wish for glasses that catch the eye was realized through the dedication and creativity of the students and their supervisors, resulting in a unique accessory that reflects Trésor’s style and personality as he competes on the world stage once again.
