The Young Professionals at Tri-County Urban League hosted the “You Da Man” Men’s Mental Health Exposition on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event aimed to create a safe space for men to discuss their mental health issues. Dozens of local young boys and men attended, participating in activities such as a panel discussion, a barber showcase, fitness training, raffles, giveaways, and more. The event organizer, Mariama Ford, emphasized the importance of men being able to express their emotions and seek help when needed.

Several resource vendors from the community, including Jolt Harm Reduction and GRO Community, were present at the event to provide support and information. Ford highlighted the societal pressures that men face to hide their emotions, noting that anger is often seen as their only acceptable emotional outlet. By hosting events like this, the organizers hoped to break down stereotypes and encourage open conversations about mental health among men.

The participants at the event were given over 100 roses as a symbol of appreciation and support. This was the second year that the event took place, with plans for future iterations to continue providing a platform for men to address their mental health concerns. The event was part of a larger effort to raise awareness about men’s mental health issues and create a supportive community for men to seek help and guidance.
