While walking home from extra classes, the 12-year-old patient collided with a tricycle traveling in the same direction, causing the wheel to crush him. The child was rushed to Hospital E in critical condition, suffering from multiple traumatic shocks, severe hemorrhagic shock, and swelling and contusions in various areas of his body.

Examination results revealed that the patient had blunt abdominal trauma, pelvic trauma, and other serious injuries. Deputy Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Poison Control, MSc. Do Quoc Phong, classified the situation as a serious and dangerous emergency due to the child’s young age, multiple injuries, severe hemorrhagic shock, and risk of imminent death.

Doctors quickly embolized the patient’s internal iliac artery to stop the bleeding at critical locations causing significant blood loss. Over the next 24 hours, the patient received nearly 4 liters of blood transfusion to stabilize his condition, despite the risks and potential complications associated with large blood transfusions.

Following the iliac artery embolization, doctors continued to treat the patient to stabilize him. The surgical team specializing in digestive surgery repaired the bladder rupture site and addressed other injuries in the abdomen. After 4 days of treatment, the patient’s health had stabilized, and he was undergoing monitoring and rehabilitation.

Dr. Phong emphasized the importance of quick and accurate treatment for pediatric patients experiencing complex multi-traumatic shock. Thanks to the timely first aid and emergency transportation provided by the E Hospital team at the scene, the child’s life was saved.
