Former Florida soccer stars Adriana Leon and Deanne Rose will be heading to the Paris Olympics later this year. Leon has earned a spot on Canada’s Olympic squad roster, while Rose will travel as one of the country’s four alternates. Both players were part of Canada’s gold medal-winning team in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

The women’s soccer competition at the Paris Olympics will take place across seven different stadiums starting on Thursday, July 25th. Canada’s first match will be against New Zealand at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Etienne.

Adriana Leon transferred to the University of Florida from Notre Dame in 2012. She scored five goals in her first season with the Gators, including four game-winners. Leon has been playing professionally since 2013 and is currently a member of the Aston Villa team. She has been a part of Canada’s FIFA Women’s World Cup rosters in 2015, 2019, and 2023, and won Olympic gold in 2021.

Deanne Rose has also had an impressive career, winning bronze in the 2016 Olympics and gold in 2021. She scored the opening goal for Canada in the 2016 bronze medal match against Brazil, becoming the youngest ever to score a goal in women’s Olympic play. Rose has been part of Canada’s FIFA Women’s World Cup rosters in 2019 and 2023.
