The Giants activated LaMonte Wade Jr. off the Injured List before the series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night at Oracle Park. Infielder Thairo Estrada and Wilmer Flores were placed on the IL to make room on the roster. Shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.
Wade, who had been out since May 28 due to a hamstring injury, completed a rehab assignment with Sacramento before being activated. Giants manager Bob Melvin expressed excitement about having Wade back in the lineup, noting his top on-base percentage and clutch factor. Wade had been hitting .333 with two home runs, 17 RBIs, and a career-best .896 OPS in 52 games before his injury.
Estrada, who leads the Giants in RBIs and is tied for second in home runs, was placed on the IL while in a slump. He had been struggling in the previous 18 games, batting .164 with three extra-base hits. Melvin mentioned that Estrada had been dealing with thumb and wrist issues.
In other injury updates, Kyle Harrison, who was scratched from his last start due to an ankle injury, had a successful bullpen session according to Melvin. Alex Cobb also threw a bullpen session and is set to make a rehab start with Single-A San Jose on Sunday.
