UH athlete Mohr selected to compete in U.S. Olympic Track & Field trials

University of Hawaii thrower Halle Mohr has earned the opportunity to compete against the top athletes in the world. Recently named a second-team NCAA All-American in discus, Mohr received an invitation to the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Ore., scheduled for June 24. Expressing her gratitude on Instagram, Mohr shared her excitement about competing alongside such talented individuals.

Originally from Raymond, Wash., Mohr placed 11th in the NCAA championships with a throw of 55.46 meters, marking her as the fourth UH discus athlete to achieve All-America status and the 16th UH athlete overall in track and field events. Her personal best of 58.25 meters at the Big West championships also set a school record. As a senior, Mohr now aims to meet the Olympic standard of 64.5 meters and place in the top three out of 24 competitors at Hayward Field – the same venue as the NCAA championships – in order to qualify for the Paris Games.

The last UH track and field athlete to take part in the U.S. Olympic track trials was high jumper Amber Kaufman in 2008. Brian McInnis reports on Hawaii’s sports scene for Spectrum News Hawaii and can be contacted at brian.mcinnis@charter.com.
