The University Interscholastic League Legislative Council met on Tuesday to discuss proposed rule changes in UIL academics, athletics, music, and policy. One of the key decisions made was the approval of split divisions in the postseason for volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, and baseball. This change would create two state championship brackets for teams in 2A-6A volleyball, softball, and baseball, 4A-6A soccer, and 1A-6A basketball to advance through the postseason. This amendment follows the format currently used for the 6A football championship structure. Schools would remain in their assigned districts per the 2024-26 alignment. The Standing Committee on Athletics proposed this amendment, which will be effective on August 1, 2024, pending approval by the Commissioner of Education.

All approved rule changes from the meeting can be found on the UIL website. A video recap of the meeting is also available for viewing. This news release is copyrighted by KCBD, with all rights reserved.
