Mack Brown and the North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program are close to securing another commitment in the 2025 recruiting class. Three-star athlete Julien Horton recently visited UNC, hoping to switch his commitment from Maryland to the Tar Heels. Over the weekend, Horton announced on X that he has de-committed from Maryland and reopened his recruitment. He thanked the Maryland coaches and expressed his decision to explore other options.

Horton, a native of Bel Air, Maryland, has received 20 offers and visited both UNC and Maryland in the past month. With his recruitment now open, UNC appears to be in a good position to land him. Two crystal ball predictions, including one from 247Sports national recruiting analyst Briah Dohn, have projected Horton to choose the Tar Heels.

Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 175 pounds, Horton is nationally ranked at No. 886, the No. 75 athlete, and the No. 22 player in Maryland according to 247Sports. UNC has already secured commitments from 10 players in the 2025 class, currently ranked at No. 47 nationally. The addition of Horton could further bolster their recruiting class.
