In Al-Hasakeh, UNICEF was able to provide crucial support to children and pregnant/lactating women from May 2023 to the end of April 2024. During this time, over 71,000 children received health check-ups and free prescriptions, with more than 200 children being referred to specialized medical services for further treatment.
Additionally, a total of 72,300 children under five years old and over 13,500 pregnant and lactating women were screened for malnutrition. Those identified as needing treatment were recommended the necessary nutrition supplies to address their needs. Health workers also conducted nearly 39,700 individual consultations and group awareness sessions for caregivers. These sessions covered topics such as infant and young child feeding, hygiene practices, and ways to stay safe from communicable diseases.
The valuable work carried out by UNICEF in Al-Hasakeh was made possible through funding from various sources, including the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA/USAID), GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, the German Federal Foreign Office, and the Governments of Australia and Norway. These contributions played a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of vulnerable children and women in the region.
