Sabrina Johnston, Eliza Brown, and Heidi Smithwick, members of the Princeton University women’s swim and dive team, will represent Team USA at the World University Games scheduled from 28 July 2023 to August 2023 in Chengdu, China. Originally set to take place in August 2021, the games have been postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The World University Games are held every two years in different cities, and it is one of the world’s largest multisport events that celebrate international collegiate sports and culture.
Embracing the motto of excellence in mind and body, the FISU World University Games Summer Games combine an educational and cultural dimension, allowing student-athletes worldwide to achieve high sport performance and intellectual excellence. The Tiger teammates are excited and grateful to represent Princeton University and the United States on an international stage. The games are an incredible opportunity for them to grow as individuals and athletes and showcase their skills and capabilities.
Sabrina Johnston remarked how building the team was an amazing opportunity, and she is grateful for the love and support she received. Heidi Smithwick acknowledged that competing in the games alongside her Princeton teammates is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent the American team and Princeton University. Eliza Brown commented that making an international team is an incredible achievement, and she is thrilled to have been selected with her three Princeton teammates.
Eliza Brown is the 2023 Ivy League 200IM champion and finished 3rd in the 200m breaststroke and 4th in the 100m breaststroke at the Ivy League Championship. She also earned Second Team All Ivy honors in the 100 Freestyle. Heidi Smithwick was an All-Ivy Second Team honoree in the Ivy League Championship 400-meter medley relay, placing fourth in the 100-meter freestyle, eighth in the 50-meter freestyle, and tenth in the 200-meter butterfly.
