Beginning July 1, 2024, new funding will be available to The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (HSC) for upgrading aging equipment, modernizing existing buildings, and expanding educational programs. This funding was allocated by the New Mexico State Legislature during its regular session and signed into law by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. The HSC is set to receive over $155 million in the next fiscal year, marking an almost eight percent increase from the previous year.
This funding will greatly benefit various departments within the HSC, including the College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Population Health, Community Engagement, Comprehensive Cancer Center, Diversity, ECHO, Education, Health, Research, School of Medicine, and more.
The University of New Mexico Government and Community Relations Office stated that this funding will help modernize facilities and enhance educational offerings within the HSC. It will also allow for the purchase of new equipment and technology to improve research capabilities and overall student experiences.
With this significant increase in funding, the HSC is poised to make substantial improvements that will benefit students, faculty, and the community as a whole. Through these investments in infrastructure and educational programs, the HSC aims to continue its mission of advancing healthcare practices and research that positively impact the lives of New Mexicans.
