The 2024 update of the Compendium of WHO and other UN guidance on health and environment is a comprehensive collection aimed at improving health by creating healthier environments. It includes over 500 actions and provides a framework for implementing health and environment interventions in areas such as air pollution, water, sanitation, hygiene, climate change, chemicals, radiation, and food systems.
Guidance in the Compendium is organized by principal sectors, level of implementation (national, community, health care), type of instrument (taxes, infrastructure, etc.), and category of evidence. It compiles existing guidance from various documents in a simple and systematized format.
To ensure that users have the most up-to-date information, the Compendium is regularly updated and includes the latest major WHO and UN guidance on health and environment. The target audience includes decision-makers related to health and environment, as well as those assisting them (such as mayors, ministry staff, UN country staff, etc.).
The Compendium was prepared by WHO in cooperation with UN Environment, UNDP, and UNICEF. It aims to reduce diseases caused by environmental factors and save lives. Additional resources, such as infographics, are available for download.
