US Farmers Benefited from India Opening Up its Market

In a testimony before the House Committee on Ways and Means, US Trade Representative Katherine Tai highlighted the progress made in improving market access for American products in India. Last year, India and the United States resolved six WTO disputes, leading to the removal of retaliatory tariffs on several US products.

As a result of these agreements, American farmers have seen increased access to the Indian market for products such as chickpeas, lentils, almonds, walnuts, apples, turkey, duck, blueberries, and cranberries. This has benefited farmers in states like Michigan, Oregon, Washington, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Tai emphasized that the steps taken by India to reduce tariffs on US products have had a positive impact on American farmers, providing them with new opportunities to export their goods to the Indian market. This has not only benefited farmers across the country but has also strengthened trade relations between the two nations. The Biden administration is committed to advancing trade policies that benefit American workers, businesses, and farmers.
