Emma Hayes made an impressive debut as the new head coach of the US Women’s National Team (USWNT) with a 4-0 victory over South Korea. Mallory Swanson and Tierna Davidson scored two goals each in the friendly match, which Hayes described as a positive start to her tenure. Despite acknowledging areas for improvement, Hayes expressed satisfaction with her team’s performance and the progress they are making under her leadership.
Following several early chances by the USWNT, Swanson opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a well-timed run into the box and a precise finish. Davidson added another goal just two minutes later, and the USWNT continued their dominance after halftime with two more goals from Davidson and Swanson. Overall, it was a successful outing for Hayes and her team.
The match marked the beginning of Hayes’ efforts to restore a winning mentality to the USWNT after a disappointing performance in the last World Cup tournament. With the 2024 Paris Olympics on the horizon, Hayes and her team are focused on continued improvement and success in international competitions. The USWNT is set to face South Korea again on June 4 in preparation for the upcoming tournament.
