The USA made history by participating in their first-ever cricket World Cup, which they co-hosted with the West Indies. Unfortunately, their match against Ireland in Florida was washed out due to tropical storms and flooding, resulting in a waterlogged outfield that didn’t dry in time. This led to the match being abandoned without a ball bowled.

Despite the disappointment of the abandoned match, the USA qualified for the Super 8s stage of the T20 World Cup along with India from their group. This eliminated Ireland, Canada, and Pakistan from advancing to the next round. Other teams that have qualified from different groups include Australia, West Indies, Afghanistan, and South Africa.

For the USA, ranked 18th in the world and playing in their first World Cup, this was a remarkable achievement. Their journey in the tournament included wins against Canada and Pakistan, as well as a close match against India. On the other hand, it was a disappointing tournament for Ireland, who lost their preceding group matches but still have a chance to redeem themselves against Pakistan.

The Super 8s stage is set to begin on Wednesday, with the USA facing South Africa in Antigua. This achievement also means that the USA has qualified for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Despite the challenges faced due to weather conditions, the USA’s performance in their debut tournament has been commendable.
