USA Women Advance to World Championships Semifinals with 10-9 Victory Against Australia

The USA Women’s National Team has advanced to the semifinal round of the 2024 World Aquatics World Championships. Maddie Musselman scored three goals for Team USA, while Jenna Flynn and Maggie Steffens each added two in the win. Ashleigh Johnson had a total of 11 saves for Team USA. The Women’s National Team will meet Spain on Wednesday at 8am et/ 5am pt. Flynn and Steffens were the sole scores for the United States in the first quarter then later on Maddie Musselman went back to back to make it 5-3 at the half. Headed into the third, Johnson tallied a collective 8 saves for Team USA, then later on Steffens and Jovana Sekulic each add another to round out the scoring 8-3. After goals on each side, Jewel Roemer adds a 10th goal to the USA scoreboard.

Australia would rally though as they get five unanswered goals in the final quarter of play. In the final eight seconds of play, Team USA is able to hold off anymore Australian goals and takes the 10-9 win to advance to the semifinal round. The United States went 5/9 on power plays and 2/2 on penalties while Australia was 3/6 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty.
