The United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) has announced that it will introduce instant replay technology at the upcoming Fastpitch Space Coast World Series from June 23-28. This groundbreaking advancement in youth softball is part of USSSA’s efforts to enhance the participant experience at its events. The technology will be used to challenge plays during select games, including the Third Place, Championship, and IF (if necessary) games of each division. Teams competing in those games can challenge one play per game, with the opportunity for a second challenge if the first one is successful.
Ryan Highfill, National Fastpitch Director for USSSA, stated that they are always looking for ways to progress and push youth fastpitch forward. The integration of instant replay technology at the Space Coast Complex will allow plays to be challenged efficiently and effectively. This will add significant value to the participants’ experience, enhancing the overall event.
Don Briscoe, Assistant National Director of Officials & National Fastpitch UIC, emphasized that USSSA’s use of instant replay technology at the Space Coast Complex blends the expertise of the USSSA umpire staff with the benefits of modern technology. It is designed to ensure that the right calls are made during the games, further supporting the organization’s commitment to fair play.
