Vienna is renowned for its rich culture, classical music, historic landmarks like the Imperial Palace of Hofburg, and world-class museums, making it one of the top cities in the world for cultural experiences. Additionally, it has been ranked as one of the most liveable cities for three consecutive years according to The Global Liveability Index. This annual report, compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, evaluates the quality of life in 173 cities globally to determine their ranking.

A liveable city is defined by good-quality living conditions, which encompass various factors such as housing availability, crime rates, and road quality. The Global Liveability Index considers 30 different factors across five categories – stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure – in its analysis. Vienna received perfect scores in all categories except for culture and environment. Western Europe as a whole performed well in the rankings, with Copenhagen and Zurich following Vienna in second and third place respectively.

Other cities that made it to the top 10 most liveable cities list include Melbourne, Calgary, Geneva (tied with Calgary), Sydney, Vancouver, Osaka, and Auckland. The full report can be downloaded from the EIU website for further details on the rankings. Moreover, Vienna is expected to surpass France as the world’s most visited destination, adding to its appeal as a desirable place to live and visit.
