Vikings may face a challenge adding 2022 first-round pick Lewis Cine to roster

The Minnesota Vikings are facing a tough decision with safety Lewis Cine, a first-round draft pick in 2022. Despite playing just 10 career games, the team is considering cutting him, which would be a significant acknowledgment of a draft mistake. During offseason practices, Cine was working with the third string and has an uphill battle to earn a roster spot, as reported by ESPN.

Cine’s time with the Vikings has been challenging. In his rookie year, he saw limited playing time before suffering a compound fracture in his leg in Week Four, which ended his season prematurely. The following year, he appeared in only seven games, primarily on special teams. Despite his lack of production, Cine’s $1.75 million salary is guaranteed, making it less appealing for the team to release him in terms of salary cap savings.

Ultimately, the decision to keep Cine on the roster will come down to whether he is considered one of the best 53 players on the team. While his draft pedigree suggests potential, his performance has not lived up to expectations thus far. The Vikings face a dilemma as they weigh Cine’s potential versus his on-field contributions in determining his future with the team.
