After 30 years with Chanel, including the last five years as artistic director, Virginie Viard is leaving the house. Chanel confirmed her departure in a statement to Vogue Business on Wednesday. The house expressed gratitude for her contributions and leadership in renewing the codes of the fashion house while honoring its creative heritage over nearly three decades.
Virginie Viard was appointed as artistic director in 2019 following the passing of Karl Lagerfeld. Despite her departure, the haute couture Autumn/Winter 2024/25 collection will still be presented on 25 June at the Opéra Garnier as planned. Chanel plans to announce a new creative organisation in the future as they continue to evolve and innovate in the fashion industry.
