Volkswagen in China Aims to Impress Customers with New Design, Cutting-Edge Technologies, and Rapid Development

Volkswagen is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) offering in China with the introduction of the all-electric ID.UX sub-brand. ID.UX combines Volkswagen’s trusted qualities with a design focused on lifestyle. The brand features a modern exterior design and a driver-centric interior with a new display and operating concept designed for young customers. The first model under the ID.UX sub-brand, the ID.UNYX, is set to launch in 2024.

To further innovate and cater to the Chinese market, Volkswagen is strengthening its development ecosystem in China. The company is increasing its workforce at the R&D site in Anhui to 3,000 experts by the end of the year. Volkswagen is also focusing on localization to reduce development cycles, with partnerships with local companies such as XPENG, Horizon Robotics, and Thundersoft. Collaborations with XPENG will lead to the development of two new mid-class vehicles starting in 2026.

In addition, Volkswagen’s joint ventures with Horizon Robotics and Thundersoft, CARIZON and CARThunder, respectively, are working on developing innovative systems for autonomous driving, infotainment, and connectivity. These efforts demonstrate Volkswagen’s commitment to expanding its product range and staying ahead in the EV market in China.
