In Berlin, we had the opportunity to attend the world premiere of a new generation of a unique Volkswagen car. The event took place in the capital of Germany, where the latest version of the California model was unveiled to journalists. This compact camper, which has been popular for decades and has seen over 200,000 units produced, is now based on the new Multivan platform.
Thanks to this new architecture, the California now features a plug-in hybrid option and two side sliding doors. The Multivan platform also offers increased practicality and versatility to the California, making it suitable for city errands as well as multi-day camping trips. The new California models, including Beach, Beach Tour, Beach Camper, Coast, and Ocean, are all based on the long version of the Multivan.
With dimensions that allow it to fit in most garages and parking lots, the California provides ample space for four to six seats, a folding bed, a kitchen, and other camping essentials. The interior height varies depending on whether the folding roof is open or closed, providing flexibility and comfort for passengers. The California is offered with three different drive systems – TDI with 150 hp, TSI with 204 hp, and a plug-in hybrid with 245 hp.
The interior features of the California include removable individual seats, a compact kitchen, additional battery for camping accessories, and various luxury details in the top model Ocean. Different versions of the California cater to specific needs, whether it be basic camping, outdoor cooking, or luxurious camping experiences. The lower bed in the interior measures 198×106 cm, and there is also an outdoor folding table with chairs and an additional external socket.
Pre-sales for the new California model in Croatia are expected to begin after the summer, with deliveries scheduled for the end of the year. The prices for the different models and trim levels will be announced closer to the pre-sales date. Overall, the new generation of the California promises to offer a blend of practicality, versatility, and comfort for camping enthusiasts and city dwellers alike.
