Walmart made the decision to close its health clinic and telehealth service due to an unsustainable business model. The retail giant announced the closure of its 51 Walmart Health locations across five states, including 23 stores in Florida, on April 30. These health offerings were initially launched in 2019 but Walmart stated that they were unable to find a sustainable business model to continue operating.

One of the challenges that Walmart faced was with insurance reimbursement, which contributed to the decision to shut down the health clinics and telehealth service. As a result, the company recommended that patients search for new providers using platforms like ZocDoc and Healthgrades. Walmart emphasized that they were unable to provide patients with contact information for providers or details about future practices, but patients would have the opportunity to obtain or transfer their health records.

Despite the closure of the health clinics and telehealth service, Walmart’s pharmacies and vision centers remain open to serve customers. The company’s decision to shut down the health offerings was made in recognition of the challenges faced and the lack of a sustainable business model.
