Warning from Health Officials: Potential Measles Exposure in Upper Valley

State health officials are currently investigating a potential measles exposure in the Upper Valley area. Both Vermont and New Hampshire health officials have not confirmed any cases of measles in their states. However, the New Hampshire public health division is looking into a report of an international traveler contracting measles shortly after visiting Hanover.

The traveler may have been infectious while visiting various public places in the area from June 20-22, including Dartmouth College’s campus. The health department has released a list of locations where the potential exposure may have occurred, including Dartmouth College campus, Hanover Inn, Hanover Scoops, Lou’s Restaurant and Bakery, and a Dartmouth Coach Bus to Boston Logan Airport.

For individuals who were in these locations during the specified dates and are not vaccinated or have not had measles before, health officials recommend monitoring for symptoms. These symptoms may include high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, and a body rash.

If individuals begin to feel sick, they are advised to contact their healthcare provider before seeking treatment to prevent the possible spread of the virus. It is important to note that measles is a preventable disease and the vaccine for it is safe and effective. If there are any questions, comments, or tips related to this potential exposure, individuals are encouraged to reach out to state health officials.
