The Golden State Warriors have made the decision not to extend a qualifying offer to guard Lester Quinones, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. As a result, Quinones will enter unrestricted free agency on Sunday. Last season, Quinones played in 37 games for the Warriors, averaging 4.4 points and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 39.7% from the field and 36.4% from 3-point range.
Quinones had his contract converted from a two-way deal to a full NBA contract by Golden State on Feb. 22. He showcased his defensive versatility and ability to seamlessly fit into both offensive and defensive systems. However, the Warriors are opting to revamp their roster, leading to Quinones being left out of their plans.
Having spent the past two seasons with the Warriors and making 41 NBA appearances, Quinones also impressed during his time with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League. Despite not receiving a qualifying offer from Golden State, Quinones has shown promise and may attract interest from other teams in the league for the upcoming season.
It remains uncertain if there will be a significant market for Quinones in the NBA. Nonetheless, his performance last season has put him in a favorable position to potentially find a new team before the start of the new season. The guard will now have the opportunity to explore his options as an unrestricted free agent.
