According to a recent report by ESPN, the Golden State Warriors have decided to guarantee Kevon Looney’s $8 million contract for the upcoming season. Looney, who has been with the Warriors since being drafted in 2015, has played a key role in the team winning two championships during his time in Golden State.

Initially, Looney was expected to enter unrestricted free agency this summer as only the first $3 million of his contract was guaranteed. By guaranteeing the full $8 million, the Warriors have chosen to keep Looney on their roster for now. However, there is still a possibility that he could be included in a trade package depending on how the team’s roster changes during free agency.

Last season, Looney appeared in 74 regular season games for the Warriors, averaging 4.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting an impressive 59.7% from the field. Despite having his contract guaranteed for next season, Looney will become an unrestricted free agent the following summer.

While Looney is currently contracted to play for the Warriors next season, his future with the team beyond that remains uncertain. Depending on how the team’s roster evolves in the upcoming months, Looney’s status with the Warriors could change before the start of the next season.
