Professional boxer Ryan Garcia was recently arrested in Beverly Hills for felony vandalism. The incident added to a string of negative headlines surrounding Garcia’s behavior, leading to his expulsion from the World Boxing Council. President Mauricio Sulaiman cited Garcia’s controversial social media posts as the reason for his expulsion, expressing concern for his well-being.
Garcia’s expulsion from the WBC came after he was suspended for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission for testing positive for a banned substance before a fight against Devin Haney. Although Garcia initially won the match, his victory was voided and changed to a “no contest” due to the failed drug test. Concerns about Garcia’s mental health were raised leading up to the fight with Haney, with Sulaiman stating that Garcia declined help for mental health and substance abuse issues.
In addition to his legal and professional troubles, Garcia was arrested at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Beverly Hills for causing damages exceeding $15,000. The incident at the hotel further solidified concerns about Garcia’s behavior and mental state among fans and officials in the boxing world. Despite this, Garcia’s team at Golden Boy Promotions has remained silent on the matter, indicating a lack of response to address concerns about the boxer’s actions.
