The land owned by IU Health in southwest Fort Wayne has the potential to become the site of a medical complex. This property, located near Lower Huntington and Ernst Roads just off of I-69, was rezoned by the Allen County Commissioners over two years ago.

The plans for the property include an IU Health medical complex that could feature a building up to 150 feet tall. IU Health purchased the land in 2019 and there was initially one building, a medical office building, under construction at the time of rezoning approval in April of 2022.

Despite open houses being held by IU Health to discuss the project with residents, concerns were raised by area residents regarding environmental disturbance and the peaceful nature of the area potentially being disrupted by a commercial project. However, no noticeable progress on the project has been made in the past two years.

Recent construction updates on IU Health’s downtown Indianapolis hospital have been provided by officials, but no specific information regarding the proposed southwest Fort Wayne hospital has been shared. The medical office building near Lower Huntington and Ernst Roads is currently operational, but it remains unclear if and when a major hospital will be built on the property.
