India’s win over Australia in St Lucia confirms three of this year’s T20 World Cup semi-finalists. Group 1 winners India will face Group 2 runners-up England in Guyana, with Group 1 table toppers South Africa set to play one of Australia, Afghanistan, or Bangladesh in Trinidad.

For Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, the key to finishing second in Group 1 and advancing to the last four will be determined by the result of the match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Tuesday.

Australia currently sits in second place ahead of Afghanistan based on net run rate. If third-placed Afghanistan loses to fourth-placed Bangladesh, Australia will reach the semi-finals unless Bangladesh secures a win by a significant enough margin to surpass Australia’s net run rate.

If the Tigers win by a 62-run margin while batting first with a target of 160, they can potentially overtake Australia’s net run rate. For Afghanistan, the task is simpler – they need to beat Bangladesh or have a rained-off game to qualify for the semi-finals with more points than Australia.

The match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh on Tuesday will determine the fate of the three teams. The semi-finals are scheduled to take place on Thursday, with the first game between South Africa and the qualifying team in Trinidad, followed by the clash between India and England in Guyana.
