The furniture and textile industries in Vietnam are experiencing signs of recovery, with wooden furniture and textiles being key products that bring in tens of billions of dollars each year. Wood and wood product exports reached 4.9 billion USD in the first four months of the year, an increase of 25% compared to the same period in 2023. Textiles and garments brought in 10.42 billion USD during the same period, showing an increase of 6.7%.

In addition to traditional export orders, the furniture and textile industries are actively seeking more retail customers through Amazon’s cross-border online channel. The Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, Ho Chi Minh City Handicraft and Wood Processing Association, and other industry associations have announced cooperation with Amazon Global Selling Vietnam to link businesses with online export opportunities.

Businesses in these industries will receive support from Amazon in accessing skills, knowledge, digital resources, and connecting with service providers to establish online export stores. This move aims to help furniture and textiles diversify beyond traditional processing activities and take advantage of the growing popularity of these products among international consumers on the Amazon platform.

Mr. Phung Quoc Man, Vice President of Hawa, highlighted the potential for growth in online sales for furniture wood exports in 2023. Similarly, Mr. Truong Van Cam from Vitas pointed out the opportunity for textile and garment enterprises to build their brands through cross-border e-commerce. Amazon Global Selling has observed significant growth in furniture and apparel products from Vietnamese sellers, indicating a strong interest and potential for online export sales.

While the scale of exports through cross-border e-commerce is still relatively small compared to total turnover, there is a significant room for development. Medium, small, and micro enterprises have shown increased interest in online export, especially in the post-Covid-19 era. The availability of technology, legal procedures, and logistics support makes this an opportune time for businesses to explore cross-border e-commerce opportunities and expand their reach to international markets.
