Widespread AT&T Outage Leaves Customers without Service Nationwide

AT&T is facing another nationwide outage that is affecting some customers on Tuesday. The company stated that there is an issue preventing many AT&T customers from completing calls between carriers. This means that customers from a rival service are unable to place calls to an AT&T customer. However, calls between AT&T customers are still functioning, although some subscribers have reported complete disruptions to their service on social media.

According to a company spokesperson, the carriers are working expediently to diagnose and resolve the issue. While AT&T did not disclose the number of impacted customers, reports of service issues on the Down Detector website have seen a significant increase, particularly in cities like New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis.

As a result of the interoperability issue, Verizon customers have also reported a service outage on Down Detector. Despite some confusion over 911 calls, AT&T has assured that such calls are being processed properly. However, some locations like Camden County, Georgia, and Scranton, Pennsylvania, mistakenly issued alerts about disrupted 911 calls due to a triggered notification template.

This outage follows a major disruption less than four months ago that knocked out AT&T’s network service for nearly 12 hours. In February, thousands of AT&T customers across America were unable to make phone calls, send texts, access the internet, or reach emergency services due to an AT&T network outage. Additionally, in March, there was a separate incident where the telecommunications company reported being hacked and sensitive data such as Social Security numbers of account holders were compromised.
