Artificial intelligence (AI) has been making headlines in recent months, causing anxiety for many. Texas AFT members have expressed concerns about students using tools like ChatGPT to avoid assignments, while the Texas Education Agency has started using computers to grade written answers on STAAR exams. However, AI also offers exciting opportunities for engaging students in learning and streamlining repetitive tasks.
In response to the growing influence of AI, the Texas House of Representatives has established an Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Technologies subcommittee to explore the integration of AI into daily life and potential security risks. Texas AFT aims to be prepared to address AI issues in public education by providing resources, training, and advice to its members.
To gather information on members’ opinions and usage of generative AI technology, Texas AFT is conducting a brief survey. The survey is quick to complete and participants will be entered to win one of eight $25 gift cards. This feedback is crucial as Texas AFT navigates the evolving landscape of AI in education. Your input will help shape the organization’s approach to AI in public education.
